I have actually decided that GNOME Shell with GNOME-classic should be the default. I have tried GNOME-panel a lot, and it is quite underwhelming. The application menus don't show all the applications; things like the Tweak Tool and Synaptic don't show up, and the settings are weird. It doesn't offer much advantage over Xfce. GNOME Shell is really easy to use. It looks great on most computers and it is designed with new computer users in mind. I know it got a backlash from the people who liked GNOME 2, and to be fair it was kind of crap when it was first released, but it has really improved. It is so easy a child can use it.
