If it's possible to separate parts of the OS that get written often on the  
SD-card, that would be really cool.
Of course, most of the 8Gib would remain unused, which would be a waste of  
real-estate. But at least, it would possibly keep it usable for a really long  
time.

I don't know for example how torrents sharing (downloads-uploads) would  
affect its longevity.

As for the SD-card, or a thumb drive, I have yet to see one fail. But of  
course, I never used one daily (for hours), for years.
