I use both, but I had some problems with Debian, it has no aMule packages,  
but I installed aMule manually. And ssh is very painful make to work, in  
Trisquel ssh works out of the box.

The good of Debian, is that it is compiled for ARM and PowerPC(but Ubuntu  
based PowerPC distros work much better), and Debian website is very very  
clear for download packages. Ubuntu website is a bit confusing when  
downloading some packages.
