The only thing I don't know about though, is if debian lts is better  
supported than ubuntu in updating packages...

Actually though... I had a thought...
its just a foolish idea probably,

but maybe base trisquel off of debian unstable or debian testing.

that is just my idea though and it wouldn't be something I would recommend  
now.

all that aside though I prefer trisquel being based off of debian.

Although, I would wait till debian 9 or 10 to make such a jump if possible.
