Thank you for your suggestions.
I already have the latest kernel and SMPlayer hangs for a while exactly the  
same way VLC does - when I move my mouse while playing full screen video - it  
has something to do with showing the control bar at the bottom; it's "funny"  
that two different media players have the same problems on my computer...
I think I'll just wait for the new Trisquel/kernel/VLC versions, I can live  
with that ;-)
