Wait, I just remembered something: it's possible to access the HDD from a  
liveUSB. I can't remember how the procedure is called, but I know I've  
detailed it in this forum (and did it obviously). Oh right, it('s called  
chrooting, and it might be easier to troubleshoot while being logged.
