I have implemented this. Now I get the grub menu automatically every time.  
But it also fails to progress to the desktop environment every time. However,  
when the desktop wallpaper appears (which occurs just before the screen goes  
blank) if I press F10, there is a message about bnfr filesystem and then I do  
see some operations scrolling down the screen and I do get to the desktop  
environment.
