That cheaper adapter, which I own, was recently said to still have the AR9271  
chipset that works with the open-ath9k-htc-firmware, which is now installed  
by default in Trisquel (no need to do anything: just plug the adapter):

It is however possible (although unlikely) that tp-link recently changed the  
chipset in that model.  You cannot know from the wrapping.
