I had the same experience as Dave. As reported on another thread, I used  
Disks to make a Trisquel 8 alpha live disk on a USB, but it woudn't boot at  
all on either of my oldish laptops (non-UEFI). It seems like I have a choice  
between switching to Debian, or continuing with Trisquel 7 (and maybe trying  
Guix).
