Abrowser's default search command adds that parameter. My understanding is that Trisquel receives a cut of the ad revenue when Trisquel users view ads on DuckDuckGo, and this parameter is used to indicate to DuckDuckGo that a user was referred from Trisquel. It might be a fingprinting risk, since not very many people use Trisquel, but only for DDG, not other sites.

Manually adding DDG as a search engine like Magic Banana did would do the trick. Or better yet, use a [Searx instance][1]. DDG requires non-free JS for certain functionality like image searches, and the server-side code is private, which keeps it centralized. Searx is completely functional without JS, its JS enhancements are free software, and the server-side code is public and free, so rather than everyone having to trust a single company they can choose from multiple instances or host their own.
