Protonmail surely comes atop in many respects when compared to gmail, hotmail/msn/outlook (or whatever it is called now), mail/gmx and others of their ilk.

I agree that not being able to use IMAP/POP3 standard protocols somehow defeats the purpose, though. In my dream computing world, I would be running my own instance of an email server.
