It is a fact that Matt had to use the Real Network development kit that
included proprietary libraries and sample code. If you are capable of
writing all the libraries from scratch so that you can pypass Real
Networks license, then more power to you. As it is, Matt is just trying
to abide by the license agreement he had to sign. And besides that, I
think he deserves a lot of credit for being the first to see the need
for and write a text console program to play Real Audio format files and
streems under Lnux. Again, if you can write something better from
scratch that doesn't have to use the Real Network development kit, then
bring it on, by all means.
