It is a reaction to false prophets like Joseph Smith. It appears more
simple for them to simply declare that God does not work that way anymore.
They guard others from following false prophets with this kind of teaching,
and it appeals to a lot of people. It also magnifies the teacher above the
revelatory offices of apostles and prophets. The problem is that the Bible
does not teach it, and in fact, it gives clear methods for judging a true
prophet from a false prophet.

What seems strange to me is that Mormons today no more practice the idea of
continuing revelation than the Protestants who reject it. The same with
Roman Catholicism. Both sects doctrinally allow for revelation, but who
among their congregations practice it? The Pope and The Prophet only? If I
walkd into a Mormon Temple and began to prophesy in the name of the Lord,
would I be cast into jail just like the Hebrew prophets were, or would my
prophecy be heard and judged like the New Testament Church of our Lord Jesus
Christ? I think we all understand that I would be put in jail. Mormons do
not believe in continuing revelation among the saints as we see in the New
Testament. They never restored the New Testament Church, and so they walk
just like the false religion of Roman Catholicism.

Peace be with you.
David Miller.
