Who made Marlin your judge? Maybe you are seeking to put Marlin in a position toward you which is not his place. Have you ever thought about that? I find your attitude toward Marlin contrary to the teachings of Paul. Consider Romans 14: Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. ... Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. ... For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at naught thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. (Romans 14:1-13) If you are receiving Marlin in any way, you do so with much doubtful disputations concerning him. This passage in Romans specifically mentions men like Marlin who esteem one day above another, and it specifically says that in this case we ought not judge him. If Marlin regards a day unto the Lord, he does so unto the Lord. Paul's letter to the Colossians says a similar thing: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (Col 2:16-17) So if Marlin has a conviction about observing the sabbath day, which is a shadow of things to come, why do you sit in judgment of him contrary to what the New Testament teaches us? Should Marlin allow you to judge him in respect of sabbath days? Not according to Colossians 2:16-17. What's amazing to me is that Marlin has not allowed you to judge him. He gets a lot of respect from me for that. I've already asked Marlin if he thinks that we ought to kill a Passover lamb every year. He said no. As far as I can tell, he is not saying that eternal life comes through Torah observance. Does he personally feel convicted to keep certain parts of the Torah? Yes, he does. Is that a sin? Only if he trusts in Torah observance for eternal life. I have not seen that attitude from him. Can his faith be strengthened? Perhaps, but the Scriptures teach us that those who are weak in the faith should be received but not to doubtful disputations. Let us judge rather that we do not put a stumbling block in his way. Marlin, I have another question for you. Must Gentiles be circumcised in order to inherit eternal life? Peace be with you.
