Legalism and grace don't go hand in hand.   Laura

MAT 19:17   And he said unto him,
{Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.}

Was Jesus a legalist?

No    Jesus hung with sinners all the time.  He told them like it was/is but he didn't listen to the pharisees.  Legalists insist that someone has to do everything "their" way.  I have lived under that in a former church.  No thanks-not for me!  Laura

Two different things.

Your former Church had men trying to be your gods, like the Pharisees.  This is the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.

Jesus obeyed His own Law perfectly, and showed its spiritual intent.
