Joseph Smith's King Follet Sermon
(as printed in History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 302-317)
I shall comment on the very first Hebrew word in the Bible; I will make
a comment on the very first sentence of the history of creation in the
BibleBerosheit. I want to analyze the word. Baithin, by, through, and
everything else. Rochthe head, Sheitgrammatical termination. When the
inspired man wrote it, he did not put the baith there. An old Jew without
any authority added the word; he thought it too bad to begin to talk about
the head! It read first, "The head one of the Gods brought forth the Gods."
That is the true meaning of the words. Baurau signifies to bring forth. If
you do not believe it, you do not believe the learned man of God. Learned
men can teach you no more than what I have told you. Thus the head God
brought forth the Gods in the grand council.
------------------------------
Dave, Notice the statement by JS: "An old Jew without any authority added
the word" about midway though the paragraph. This is a very unscholarly way
for a prophet to interpret scripture. If he disagrees with a word, he throws
it out and blames some old imaginary Jew. How many other words has JS he
thrown out? How much more has he changed scripture at his whim to suit his
definition? [Both are rhetorical questions]
If that does not raise a red flag to the nature of JS and his
interpretational/revelatory skills, then therein lies the LDS problem.
