Hello from lovely, though liberal, San Fran!  Terry, I believe the study of numbers in the Bible having meaning is called Gematria. (Do a Yahoo search to learn about it.) I think there is a lot of meaning to every number used; and even today numbers can carry significant meaning the same way, such at the meaning of the attack on America on 9-11. Izzy,

Every once in a while, I get to wondering about the significance of numbers in the Bible.  It seems that certain numbers are used too frequently to be coincidental.  Numbers like three, seven, twelve, and forty come to mind as examples.  Why not eleven, or seventeen, or seventy-three?

Maybe Peter or Marlin or someone can shed some light?

Terry
