DaveH, this the site about the obelisk. From the engraving on the monument base, it appears to be a tribute to the translation of the BoM.

DAVEH: As far as I know, only in the markers of historic sites. I suppose there may also be graves that are marked that way. Whether or not there are other uses, I'm not aware of them.
