Laura:
Every Christian is accountable first to Christ, then to every other Christian. We are our brothers keepers. We encourage one another, and if necessary, we discipline one another. We are all priests. There is no distiction between clergy and layity. These are man made terms that are not found in scripture. If the Church has any leader besides Christ, it is the elders, not the preachers who will, if necessary, settle disputes and keep the body in one accord.
As to screwballs in the home church, there are SOME, just as there are SOME in any group. David Koresh is history in this world, but Satan is training more like him. That is why I think new Christians should be locked up with a Bible for six months before being exposed to preachers. Chances are they would then know a lie when they heard it.
Blessings,
Terry

I'm interested too in who they are accountable to besides God. I guess I'm leery because friends of mine back in DE got mixed up in a home church and really were taught some false doctrine. Laura
What's the role of preaching in the NT? Is (NT) preaching essential to (NT) churches; how so? (Define preaching--and, pls try to make it interesting...I'm feelin' a little woozy this a.m. <lol>)
