Dean, I don't mean to offend you, but I am very concerned about the spirit you have in this matter. I fear that your attitude is such that you would have been among those who complained about Jesus associating with publicans and sinners and religiously deceived people. I learned something yesterday that makes me even more concerned. I have learned that Ron McRae sent a letter to Bruce Murch, a past member of this list, excommunicating him from fellowship. This was sent because Bruce supports the idea of killing abortionists as a means of defending the unborn. I certainly do NOT agree with Bruce's theology on this point, but I believe it is an egregious sin in the body of Christ to excommunicate him because of that viewpoint. Bruce is one who has plainly said that he would never kill an abortionist because he does not believe it is expedient to do so. So Bruce is being excommunicated simply for an idea and viewpoint that he has. This is the same attitude that the Roman Catholics had when they burned Protestants at the stake. It is the same attitude that John Calvin and the elders of Geneva had when they burned people at the stake. I hope you make some time to answer some of my posts along these lines. I think the sin lies with those who excommunicate believers for their theology rather than with someone like Judy who has a Mormon over for the holidays. Please stick around long enough to talk about it, rather than just stating your position and running off. I also understand that Ron McRae never talked with Bruce man to man about these issues. He simply mailed him off a letter. Bruce says that there were two opportunities when they were together that he could have said something, but he did not. I consider this a cowardly way of dealing with disagreements. Nevertheless, I do appreciate Ron taking the time to at least clarify his position. That is admirable. Peace be with you.
