Subject: [TruthTalk] What advantage is there to Mormonism? None.

Blaine:
Stating it is such does not in any way show it is.
One must have the spirit of the Holy Ghost with him/her to know if this
is true or not.  But even if it was a lie ....
  • you have to admit it was a grand lie--
  • too good for any man to do, and
  • definitely supported by too many scriptures and prophesies to be a work of the devil.
  • Remember, Jesus was also accused many times over of being a worker of the devil, and a liar.
  • As he said, why would the devil work against himself--in this case, by fulfilling Biblical prophecies?
Judy:
Do you claim her that the BofM is supported by scripture and prophecy Blaine while ATST you
say that the Bible is unreliable?

Blaine:  Did I say the Bible was "unreliable?"  Not that I recall.  It is the many interpretations of the Bible that I find interesting.  How can two different, opposing interpretations both be right?  Take infant baptism.  Most Protestants believe in it--yet, as we learned from Kevin and discussing the subject rationally, Baptists, also Protestants, do not believe such.

You tell me the BoM is not indicated by the Bible?  Yet when I point out scriptures that relate to it, you never pick up on it--you apparently hope that if you ignore them, they will go away.  I get the impression you have never even seen some of these Biblical passages, yet there they are, right smack dab in the middle of your (our) Bible.  Kevin sometimes attempts to discredit them--at least he doesn't ignore them.  LOL

What I find the most revealing, however, is when I read your answers, they quite often seem more like some platitudes, unsupported conjectures, generalizations or assertions, mixed in with a few . . . . put downs?   (:>)

-for example:

Always remember that Jesus spoke the words of God and every word He spoke is supported
by OT scripture   (true--but basically a platitude)

which can not be said of the words Joseph Smith got out of that hat.  (a mix of put-down and unsupported generalization, which I would heartily disagree with, but obviously has no creibility because it is glaringly apparent that in making this comment the writer has never read the Book of Mormon.)

The devil has fulfilled some Biblical prophecy - (??unsupported assertion?? What are you referring to??)

he did have the Lord of Glory killed on a sinners
cross   (platitude)

which he wouldn't have been part of if he had fully understood the implications - (unsupported conjecture)

he is angry and wants to take as many as possible into eternity with him,  (platitude)

wake up and smell the coffee.  (a putdown!!)
