Kevin, have we been together so long and you still don't know this?

jt: Hmmm! that phrase sounds familiar - didn't Jesus speak it to Philip?

Why did you send the email quoting our brother? What was your intent?
If it was not to cause trouble and impede learning, then I suggest you
read his post again, this time for understanding. There was a context
there.

jt: Well the context messes everything up and makes John sound totally
doubleminded.  You either know or you don't and when God gives you
spiritual understanding - believe me you know.  Tell me will understanding
these verbs make anyone more holy?  Will it help them to heal the sick and
cast out demons which is loving people and doing the works of Jesus?

Look there for understanding. When you ripped it out of context and
threw it at us, you did the same thing you do when you throw Scripture
at us. You did not read our brother's words for understanding, How are
we to believe you read any words for understanding?

jt: Kevin probably read it the same way I did because I had a similar
response; this stuff may be OK for English class and English books
or even Greek but God knows our frame and He is a Master
Communicater with or without indicatives and imperatives.

"Are you asking me to ignore IMPERATIVE?" No, of course not.
I am asking you to try to understand how they are used. Bill Taylor

have understood. What is it that you have understood?

And NO I am not in this to cause trouble. Anyone that does not agree
with you is a trouble maker? Is the Word of God troubling to you?
Are you saying that these scriptures get in the way of learning?
Should we all just lie down and accept your aberrant teachings?
I am told over & over to BEWARE. I set a guard you want me to
drop my guard?

Are you asking me to ignore IMPERATIVE?
2 Peter 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye KNOW these things
before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the
wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. Please clearify for us.

Sad commentary And an amazing statement!
"We can never know if we are right about anything"
What a testimony!
Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge

So why even discuss anything?
It is all vanity!

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.?
The Christians testimony:
1 Jn 3:19 we know that we are of the truth
1 Jn 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
JN 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Prov 15:2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
We can know for certain
Luke 1:4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
Prov 22:21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
1 Tim 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
The Righteous KNOW:
PS 119:75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right
PS 94:10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
PS 95:10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways
Ps 51 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to KNOW wisdom.
Prov 8 For my mouth shall speak truth ...They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge
Some ERR
Is 5:13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge
Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
Mt 22:29 Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures
Some are BABES
IS 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
It is the WICKED that do NOT KNOW!
MT13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Ps 92:6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
PS 82 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness
Prov 4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

PS 14:4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge?

Is 44:9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

Jer 9:3 And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.

Is this your crowd?

Thanks Judy. You did apprehend my meaning and, in the end agreed. Aside from assuming the "attack mode" at the outset you acknowledged that there are limitations to our understanding of Scripture's meaning and, throughout life will continue to be this "seeing in part". Thanks, Lance

We can never know if we are right about anything -  that is why change (even for our Mortmon friends  and judyt) is possible.   And that is why Paul tells us that doctrinal knowledge is not the key but love --   I  Co 8:1-3.
