I thought he made it a requirement of all disciples. Didn't he tell the woman caught in adultery, "go and sin no more"? Didn't he tell us that we must be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Mat. 5:48)? Didn't Paul call himself perfect in Phil. 3:15? Didn't Paul speak of us being made free from sin in Romans 6?
