Denotative vs Connotative.What is primary is NOT the syntactical comparison of Scripture with Scripture but the semantic or the denotative reference..beyond to God Himself. This is how we TEST THE INTERPRETATION OR DOCTRINAL FORMULATION by tracing back our thought to its source in the reality known. Or, otherwise put: We refer everything to God and nothing to ourselves.We have to let ourselves be so radically called into question  as to be stripped of all our presuppositions and prejudgements. IT IS IN THIS ULTIMATE TRUTH OF GOD THAT AUTHORITY RESIDES AND NOT IN THOSE WHO INTERPRET IT NOR IN ANY SET OF RULES OR METHODS OR DOCTRINES THAT WE MAY BRING TO OUR INTERPRETATION OR FORMULATION. The truth itself anf not any formulation of the church's understanding is the criterion of true knowledge.
