Lance:I've known more smart women than men over my
rather lengthy life,
including my wife so, please include women.
jt: How many big thick doctrinal
books have you seen or do you know of
that are written by
women?
Strictly guessing, I'd say that a high percentage
of believers globally, though
"smart" are not highly educated.
jt: God does not demand a high
education. This is why he sent the Holy Spirit.
The Old Covenant depended on the
Levitical Priesthood to lead the people.
Under the new covenant we have One
Lord and the rest of us are brethren.
Only today we see ppl building their
own kingdoms, setting themselves up on
the platform in highbacked chairs.
Maybe not so in Canada but it is here.
They apparently apprehend enough through God's Word
to participate the "life"
I guess that's a resounding NO! There are no
"plusses" necessary.
jt: Glad to see you say that Lance.
My late father in law was one of the godliest
men I've known with only a 4th grade
education. At his house the only book you
would find was the Bible and he had wisdom; he was
stable, honest, caring, and
he understood God's creation without
a formal education; people in
the community
respected and honored
him.
However whether "smart" or "unsmart" people do
mishandle the Word of God on
occasion wouldn't you agree? Lance
jt: Oh! All the time but I don't see
the problem as semantics... we have the same
problem as Israel in spite of all
that has been written. We give God lip service
while our hearts chase after what's
around us in this evil and perverse generation.
God judges us by cutting off our understanding...at which point
we can either
repent and return or keep on with our stiff necked stubborn
rebellion. He will
not spend eternity with a bunch of devils, cross or no cross. We
have a heart
problem. It's our
choice. jt
Lance: Through not in,
the Bible. Yes, to He who is Truth embodied. Lance
jt: You will need to explain a
little more Lance, are you saying it is the Bible plus smart men?
From: "Lance Muir"
"No more than a pretext to put
forth erroneous ideas.
Appeal must be made beyond all
Biblical, all ecclesiastical citations to the Truth of
God Himself.
For that (He)
is the supreme authority to which (whom) all must submit and all must
rely.
Ultimately it is by reference to
That truth that judgement must be passed upon the truth and error of
our interpretations or
formalizations (dogma/doctrine/beliefs growing out of Scripture
itself).
jt: As Pilate said "What is Truth?" First we
must define it and then recognize it when we find it.
Can we agree that Jesus is the person you refer
to above? and that Jesus is the "supreme authority"
and that He is the one who judges between
"truth and error?" Where do we find His Truth then?
Where do we learn from Him?
From: "Lance Muir"
Denotative vs Connotative.
What is primary is NOT the syntactical
comparison of Scripture with Scripture but
the semantic or the
denotative reference..beyond to God Himself.
This is how we TEST THE INTERPRETATION OR
DOCTRINAL FORMULATION
by tracing back our thought to its source in
the reality known. Or, otherwise put:
We refer everything to God and nothing to
ourselves.
We have to let ourselves be so radically called
into question as to be stripped of
all our presuppositions and
prejudgements.
IT IS IN THIS ULTIMATE TRUTH OF GOD THAT
AUTHORITY RESIDES
AND NOT IN THOSE WHO INTERPRET IT NOR IN ANY
SET OF
RULES OR METHODS OR DOCTRINES THAT WE MAY BRING
TO
OUR INTERPRETATION OR FORMULATION.
The truth itself anf not any formulation of the
church's understanding is
the criterion of true knowledge. More if
anyone's interested Blessings, Lance
jt:
What if we read and study the KJV Bible which
uses 8,000 words and is on a
10th grade level which is easy to understand? Why
would semantics even be an issue?
SO THE HOLY SPIRIT DID NOT INSPIRE ANY OF OF
GOD'S PROPHETS?
FOLK - BELIEVE THAT AT YOUR OWN PERIL
.....
I never listen to
Discouragers. They are never Holy Spirit inspired.
