Judas loved his people Israel and wanted them to be relieved of Rome's oppressive domination, therefore Judas 'had to force' Yeshua's Kingly Messiah role. Judas wanted Scripture (Truth) to remain whole, for the promises of God said that David would always be on the throne of Israel (II Shemuel 7)... and how does one explain Rome? Simply, force Messiah to take His kingly/Conquering role, and the Son of David would (and forever) rule Jerusalem.

Do you think the "kiss" was one of betrayal or an effort on his part to force the Messiah to be what scripture presented Him to be  --   something that backfired.

Or, does Judas, for a time, see Jesus as a fraud   ---  but only for a brief period of time.

I think it is possible, after reading the Matt 26,27 account just now, that Judas sought to repent, and, perhaps in returning the money, there may have been a fleeting moment where Judas thought he might undo the deed by returning the money.   When he saw this was not the case,  his remorse got the best of him and he commited suicide  --   an indication of just how serious he thought his mistake to be   --   perhaps he came to believe tht he had brought down the Jewish Messiah  ??  !!

Thoughts?

John reports that Judas was the treasurer of the group.  He, Judas, carried the purse.  He also reports that Judas was a thief, which would indicate that he had a love for money.

Couple that with what Slade said about him being a Zealot, and you have a man who  is disappointed that there is to be no revolution, and decides to go for the next best thing, the money.
Maybe, maybe not?   Speculation, just speculation.
