The thrust of the command is to keep the Shabbat holy. When we're told not work, we are told not to do servile work. We are to be free to be God's instruments... not the instruments to slavery. "Are we to do good or evil on the Shabbat" is not a rhetorical question. Understand that and you will find your missing pieces. Terry rightly said, "Jesus did say that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." This is true. We're to be slaves to God, not to anything or anyone else.
