We do misunderstand each other. [SOMEtimes it's almost comical.] You see the teaching of Greek Dualism [in Rom 7 & 8]. I see Paul using terms familiar to a Gentile audience. I do not find the two chapters difficult, but I also don't have the chutzpah to deal with it in a thread with you. If that is not a "spirit of meekness" to you, then I don't know what to say. You are the hardest person for me to debate because I generally don't have the time necessary to deal with tangentially escalating posts. Please accept my sincere apologies. I think I might study it in depth soon... you know... to even understand my perspective more.
You asked me not to take your comments so personally because they were pointed at others. However, please read back and you will discover the points you were "putting down" were made on this board. I think you can see why I would believe your comments were directed at me. Even JD sensed a "dig" there when he said, "I am hoping that we are not having fun at anyone's expense." It's often hard to make a point "against" without it affecting someone and I understand this. By the way, your comments regarding me being moderate are appreciated. (Some at the congregation in Wisconsin criticized me and even suggested my ousting because I did not "lay down the law" in regards to Torah Observance and other issues not worthy of your time.) By the way, I am not insulted nor am I "teed off," though I will admit to occasional bouts of frustration which sometimes is released as sarcasm. You have no idea what I've dealt with in the past. The beginning of my Faith was one terrible battle after another -- the urge to "give up" was incredible. What TruthTalk provides [as far as ribbing goes] is mild in comparison. By the way, You see Hebrew Mindset being placed on a pedestal. I see more people calling it cultic and dangerous. -- slade -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of David Miller Sent: Wednesday, 22 December, 2004 10.39 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TruthTalk] TOE revisited You greatly misunderstand me, Slade. Romans 7 & 8 teach the Greek dualism of man. Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles, a group of people who were more familiar with Plato and Aristotle than Abraham and Moses. All the buzz words are there that shows Paul to side more with the doctrine of the Greeks, the Pharisees, and Yeshua, rather than the general Hebrew mindset established by the Sadducean sect of the Hebrews. If you do not see any distinction in man between flesh and mind and spirit, then it seems from my perspective that you would find these two chapters of the Bible to be very difficult to understand. If that is not the case, then my comment was a brief invitation for you to share your perspective on these chapters. Of course, your answer of just saying that they don' t pose any challenge to you is very helpful to me as well. It helps me keep my mind open to hearing other things that you might say that would give me some glimmer of understanding of your viewpoint. Personally, I cannot understand how the Sadducees cannot believe in the spirit of man and in angels. I find some of your stated beliefs equally perplexing and hope that one day you will feel comfortable enough to share with us in the spirit of meekness what you believe. I did not have you in mind regarding this point. I almost mentioned you as an exception, and now I wish I did. I had in mind the Hebrews of Christ's day and also other Messianics and Jews who believe in Jesus. I have been very pleased to see you able to correspond with others in this forum who use Hellenized or Latin nouns. I consider you to be very moderate in regards to my comments and truly an exception, not an example. ---------- "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man."
