jt: Apparently the Bereans had a copy of the scriptures so that they were able to check what the apostle
Paul was teaching them verbally and this is recorded as an example to our generation. Anyone who is not
grounded in the truth of God's Word plays with fire when they swallow what these 'contemporary scholars'
come up with. Look at the damage already done by the unbelieving German theologians of the last millenium.

Jt:It may be a reality that you, and apparently many others on this forum, believe that contemporary scholarship is
either of little/no value or even a hindrance. Praise God that such thinking is not universal throughout the believing community.
Now, as to the earlier church? They looked to others to teach them as most would not have had b i b l e s.

Never heard of NT Wright, or Gordon Fee.  What in the world did the first century believers do without them?

they read guys like Paul, Peter, Luke.
They could have stuck with scripture, but they included the modern day writers of their time.
