I think we have established the sad fact that communities sin too. That is, they fail to do the job of community. All the more need to work at nourishing healthy community. OK, I think I've blathered enough, I'm done on this one!

However, we can understand a piece of reality without them. There is the washout effect too. Somebody thinks they have an understanding of a piece of reality, and they really do, but when they bring it before others, they are batted down. They then might bury that which was given to them and so what was meant to be revelation to the rest of the community is lost. In this situation, community hindered truth rather than helped it.
