DM: What did Einstein say that led you to characterize him as a "pagan unbeliever"?  Do you use the word "pagan" in the religious sense, as in the polytheistic religion of someone like Pagan Wolf (a past member of this list), or do you use it to mean that he was nonreligious?

jt: I meant it in the same sense as Luther did when he called Aristotle a "pagan wretch" and said that more ppl were reading him than were reading the holy scriptures.

DM: Einstein believed in God and rejected Quantum Mechanics specifically because he said, "God doesn't play dice with the universe."

jt: He may have believed that there is a God but then so did the Greeks and so do the demons believe and tremble.

DM:  Nevertheless, he did not believe in a personal God.  He was more like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, who were Deists.  Einstein is famous also for saying, "science without religion is lame, and religion without science is blind."

jt: Sad that Einstein didn't see fit to focus some of his mental energy upon seeking to find out who this God is because the universe and the times are in His hands whether or not we know details about how it all works..
