Some people believe God is angry 24/7 with unbelievers and lukewarm believers. If this is true, then being on the receiving end of His wrath is not an indication whether someone believes in Jesus or not. But what about salvation? Is this verse saying that if someone believes in Jesus, he is saved - even if he is lukewarm or disobedient. Or do we have to draw in other verses to explain fully our worldview?

jt: Didn't Jesus say "If you love me you will do what I say?"  God's anger/wrath is against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men - who hold the truth in unrighteousness. Does anyone have a problem with this?

There is another way of looking at John 3:36. John wrote that in him (Jesus Christ) was life, and that life was the light of men. He came into that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. (John 1:4,11) Our breath of life comes from God and we belong to Him whether we receive Jesus or not. John also wrote in 1 John 1:2 that Jesus Christ is eternal life. "The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us."

jt: What is your foundation for this belief Caroline?  What about those whose father is the devil?  Jesus addressed some who were in this category and I am assuming they were breathing.

Basically, John 3:36 is saying that if we received Jesus, participate in the Triune life the Father is offering, then we have Him who is eternal life. If we don't, we won't see it or understand it. And our experience of the love and joy of this divine life will be experienced as wrath. Ye who have ears, hear. Love,  Caroline

jt: "Believeth on" is active - it is to believe and keep on believing... and as Jesus says "If we love Him we will do what He says"
Any problem with the above?  judyt

Lance Please give just ONE ALTERNATE INTERPRETATION of this text:

JN 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
