Jesus asked, "Why do you call me Lord, and do not do as I tell you?"
We obey because He is Lord and we are not.  Simple as that.  Though love is the ideal motive, it does not matter  whether you feel like doing it out of love, or fear, or do not feel like doing it at all.  He is not wringing His hands hoping we will someday obey.  He demands obedience, because He deserves obedience.  HE IS LORD!

When you are right, it is usually profoundly so  --  and when you are wrong, it is just as profound.   It is "works salvationalism" that teaches that it makes no difference why you obey, just do it anyway.   I kind of doubt that this is what you mant to say  ....... at least I sincerely hope so, but that is exactly what is sounds like you are saying.  In your paragraph of thought, you make "works" more important than the motivation.   The Bible nowhere teaches this.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Do it anyway, whether it appeals to you or not.  The Lord is in charge.  The potter makes the vessel to be used.  He promises trials, persecution, and a whole sack full of other bad stuff.  Do it anyway.  Abraham did not leave Haran because of the warm fuzzies.

Me do works????  What a terrible thought!!!!  How can you imagine that I would ever do a work for the Lord?  What did He ever do for me?  Why in the world would I dedicate my life to Him?
Don't you see me sitting here with a lap full of faith?  Why in the world would I do a work?
Wake up John.
