If you back up to pre Christian times, you will find that king David felt
the same way at times,

Terry and DaveH, hope you don't mind if I add a thought
or two about David and his feelings because
I see this brought up often by ppl who mention the
imprecatory Psalms etc. We know that all scripture
is given by inspiration of God and that God
Himself calls David a man after his own heart.
I submit that when David spoke about the
"wicked" it was always in general terms and
never a personal vendetta toward any one person
and in this he is, in fact, agreeing with what God
says
about the wicked in his statutes and
commandments.
Job's comforters were doing the same in their
discourses but their mistake and what made God angry
with them is that they judged Job personally
and accused him adding to his affliction when
God was
allowing him to be tested by the
adversary.
In contrast the ppl DaveH speaks of sound angry and
vengeful for personal reasons so they would not
represent either God's zeal or the fruit of a Christian
life.. judyt
