Actaully, this is a very good
translation. There are those who draw attention to themselves by
insisting that their interpretation is actually directly from the mind of
God. They pretend they are of God in a way that distinquishes them from
the larger body. Such is divisive and leads us away from the Person we
claim to serve. To put one's understanding of scripture on the same level
as those who wrote those scriptures to foster the outrageous.
Are you claiming that
Lance's translation is more accurate and written by "those who wrote the
scriptures" JD? I have a lot of different translations here but the one he
quotes is a new one on me.
Such cannot be defended by the very scriptures these people pretend to understand. The above scripture does not teach an "inspired translation or understanding of scripture." The key wording, here, is " of scripture." Verse 10 of this context makes it clear that the Apostle is talking about the Spirit's revelatory ministry in the life of the believer apart from any other influence. Not the preacher, not the prophet, not the pastor, not the evangelist, not the apostle, not scripture !!! This passage actually establishes the fact of personal realationships between God and man. This passage is a direct assault against external ministries: (v.16) For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind of God Christ."
We have the "mind of
Christ" because of the indwelling Holy Spirit JD because "the Lord is that
Spirit" which
makes Lance's slurs against DavidM arrogant and totally off the wall. If
Lance does not agree then he should challenge what DavidM writes on the basis of
scripture (which BTW is sound doctrine). This may be what he is
trying to do here - but where does he find these weird
translations?
The larger context is a statement of the way things SHOULD BE in the life of the Corinthians -- not the way things are with these people. This "larger context" proclaims a situation that is NOT THE RESULT of spiritual giftedness but of spiritual MATURITY. That's right. Spiritual maturity. And so Paul says (3:1) ".....brethren, I could not speak to you as to spiritual men but as to men of the flesh ..." That is the end of this passage of thought !!!!!!!

Yeah, being spiritually immature and
walking after the flesh puts one in the same camp as the normal, unregenerate,
unbeliever.
And How does this passage of thought begin
????? Chapter 2:6 ".....we speak wisdom among
those who are mature." It is the childish
one who presents any other option and relies on any other source other
than the personal indwelling of the
Spirit.
You're telling off on yourself JD.
What about relying on Barth, Torrance, Polyani, Kruger et al? Isn't this
the same as saying "I'm of Apollos, or I'm of Paul?
Romans 14 makes it clear that this relationship is
one of Master and saint -- exclusive of the corporation
(and I am not putting down the need for the Assembly). The brother in
Romans 14 is wrong about (perhaps) a number of things -- but
He is made right because of his relationship with God (Romans
14:4).
We never get far from legalism do we
JD. This chapter in Romans is about Christian liberty and judging young
believers over what they eat and drink.
Romans 8:28 tells us that God can work good
our of anything -- to the believer.
To "THE BELIEVER" but it matters what
we believe. He will not work good out of deception or in the lives of those who
do not love the Truth; in fact God Himself is the one who sends delusion to
these ppl (2 Thess 2:10-12)
The work of the Spirit, here in I
Cor 2, is a similar statement -- the Spirit working His will
in the life of those who are mature enough to allow this process to
happen. I Cor. 2 HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH UNDERSTAND
SCRITPURE IN A DIDACHE SENSE OF THE WORD. Pastor
Smithson
So Jesus was misleading EVERYONE when
He said "If you love Me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS. And I will pray the Father
and He will give you another Helper that He may abide with you
forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the
world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor
knows Him but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I
will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. A little while longer and
the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will
live also; At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and
I in you. He who HAS MY COMMANDMENTS AND KEEPS THEM, it is he who loves
Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him
and manifest Myself to him" (John 14:15-21)
The apostle Paul goes on to explain
the difference between spiritual and carnal in 1 Cor 3;1-5; the babes in Christ
are the ones following men, those who say "I am of Paul" and "I am of Apollos" -
I am of Barth, I am of Torrance, I am of Kruger, selah!!!

'Someone who is merely human doesn't accept the things of God's spirit. They are foolishness to such people, you see, and they can't understand them because they need to be discerned spiritually. But spiritual people discern everything, while nobody else can discern the truth about them! For 'who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct him?' But WE HAVE THE MIND OF THE MESSIAH'
In my own case, my dear family, I couldn't speak to you as spiritual people, but as people who were all too obviously merely human, little babies in the Messiah. I fed you with milk, not solid food, because you weren't able to take it - and you still can't, even now! You're still determined to live in the old way! Yes, wherever there is jealousy and quarreling, doesn't that mean you're living in the old way, behaving as any merely human might do? When someone says 'I'm with Paul!', and someone else says 'I'm with Apollos!, are you not mere humans?'
