I'll bet God is blown awy with what passes for Intelligence in this world

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law
give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
give me understanding, and I shall live.
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple
Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy WORD.

You see no matter what you do it always comes back to His Word!

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Paul had CONFIDENCE in the Word
Romans 10 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Paul did not put confidence in his education or experience as proper confidence is in Christ. But he used everything that he was and has while following Christ. His letters show his training in logic, rhetoric, Mosaic Law and classics.

I'll post the rebuttal to save ya'll typing time: Paul didn't write those letters! They were dictated word-by-word to him. Any hint of Paul's personality coming through is an illusion.

Aw shucks, that jist blows me theeries of God valooing entiligents to heck.

All of Paul's intelligence and religious education were not where it was at for him. He writes "For we are the circumcision which worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh."  He then goes on to explain further what having "confidence in the flesh" consists of. ie:

"Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more.  Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.  But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ....   Shall we follow Paul as he follows Christ?  jt

Hmm. I wonder if that's true about Peter and Paul. There are many gifts, but the same Spirit. I don't know if he uses the intelligent ones more; he uses them more for certain kinds of work, I guess--the kind that requires intelligence--and you're right, they are accountable to do it. And he uses others just as much for certain other kinds of work, thank God, and they better do theirs, too.

Right?

Debbie

He used Paul way more. Way, way more. I'm not saying God uses only intelligent people or that God has no use for the mentally challenged. But He can and does use the intelligent, gifted, wise ones more. Otherwise, why give them intelligence, gifts and wisdom? And why tell people that if they've been given much, much will be required of them?

God did not use Peter?

An intelligent Christian with wisdom can be taught and such a person would be used mightily by the Spirit. Paul is an example of such a person.

And so was a common fisherman named Peter.  Izzy

I cor 1: 26For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,   28and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29so that no man may boast before God.
