Sounds wonderful to me Izzy.  Our daughter and SIL in TX are sending theirs to a very expensive Christian School. They are happy so far but don't know whether they will be able to affort to keep all four there.  It is probably better than secular schools in some ways but I don't see much spiritual discernment going on. We were back for our grandsons birthday and he, along with all of his school friends were into the Pokemon thing. Same with Harry Potter.  Just recently Jenna who is five asked me if Harry Potter is evil. She has been told that all of that stuff is "just pretend" and this may be so (in the movie) but there is a real out there and there are ppl who believe and practice these things and from what I've read the movie follows these practices closely.  Since these things are an abomination to God - should we spend our time being entertained by them?  I'm not in favor of fearing anything other than God and when we do fear Him in the right way there is no need to fear anything else - and that includes secular culture in all forms.  jt

Debbie, I’m appreciating your comments this morning.  Being in the world but not of it is sometimes challenging.  How much do we want to partake of it w/o being overtaken by it? My two sons are grown.  My step-children, not here with us often enough, live with their biological mother and stepfather in another state and are being raised in a faith and situation which we do not approve of.  That is painful, but we pour Jesus and His Word into them whenever they are with us, and they are very receptive by God’s grace.  We have a wonderful relationship with them.

The grandchildren, ages 6 and under, are being homeschooled.  They do not have cable TV or worldly media in their home.   They watch Christian videos or G rated secular movies and listen to Christian music only.  Their friends are all church or homeschool related, with parents who are familiar with the family.  They are wonderful, smart children with rich lives in spite of what the naysayers would think.  The 6 year old reads the Bible better than our teenaged public-school taught children.  She is playing piano and taking ballet lessons. (My son taught himself to play piano after graduating from the AF Academy, and he is teaching her.)  I am thankful they will not have to deal with the stresses of government schools, or even private Christian schools, full of demonized children.  My sons hated the stresses of public schools, but their father wouldn’t allow them any other option.  Oral sex on the school bus is the norm now.  Not something I want my sweet grandchildren to be exposed to, among other things.  Izzy

...And (she mused doggedly on) some movies, TV shows, books, etc. out there offer as good a critique of our culture as any delivered by a Christian who set out to do so. If not better.

BTW, who else on TT is actively raising children at this stage of their lives? David, I know. Anybody else? If any of you have mentioned your pre-adult children, I'm sorry I've forgotten!
