There is the preaching of truth that will run people away.   I certainly do not deny that.  But what is the message from which they retreat?   I simply do not believe that it is a honest heart that sees a similarity between the message of Christ demonstrated here in chapter 6 and the insulting, underware waving (beit men's or women's) bullhorn totting antics of a few of our SP.   I do not say that all SP is foolish.   But, if deegan mirrors the attitudes expressed here on TT toward the Mormons he preaches against on the streets,  he is not acting as Jesus would have him act.

"Everyone is leaving" is not the picture I see in this chapter.   But, that aside  -- why did some leave?   I believe the message Jesus preached to the five thousand was probably similar to Matt 5-7  .......... a message not apparent in the SP i read about and reject as the saving message.  And no SP antiics  in Christ's conduct --  none.

You ask "Are you sure that widespread popularity is
the distinguishing feature of proper evangelistic methods?"

Specifically, what is it in my postings that makes you think that I believe the preaching of the Message must be well received?    Christ's message included the supply of physical needs and the ministry of righteousness and hope.   Those features of His message are self-evident, I think.

In John 6 and chapter 17,  Jesus is concerned about the fact that those who are to be saved through His ministry are not lost  --  ".....of all that has been given me,  I lose nothing  ,,,"   As God on earth, He had a divine perspective we do not have  -  a knowing of who is and who isn't .   We do not share in that same perspective.   BUT, WE MUST SHARE IN THE SAME CONCERN  --  TO LOSE NO ONE THAT SHOULD BE SAVED.   Many SP preach with total disregard of this consideration.,

How do you view the driving away from Christ that happened in John 6?

John 6:66-67
(66) From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with
him.
(67) Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

One day Jesus is feeding five thousand men and has their ear. The next day,
everyone is leaving, offended about what Christ was teaching. Did Jesus use
the wrong methods of evangelism? Are you sure that widespread popularity is
the distinguishing feature of proper evangelistic methods?

Peace be with you.
David Miller.
