Yes, the choices he made for his own life were stupid.  He lost the kingdom and his children suffered

Since Paul says that if you break one law you have broken the whole law, I would say the whole law was unkeepable.  If I were a Jew living under the law, I would have broken most of them.  If I were under that law today I would have broken most of them.  Thank God, I am not under the law.
