LOL.  Judy, this very reason for why you do not agree with Torrance is, well, exactly Torrance's point.  In other words, you should be agreeing with him if you really understand what he is saying.  When religious people insist upon certain words and symbols, they become in bondage to a religious spirit.  In other words, when you showed yourself ready to drop the word "symphony" in talking about the Godhead because there was resistance to it, you were following Torrance's point here.  You are more interested in the spiritual reality than in the words you use to try and communicate that reality.  In contrast, when others get upset with you for not liking their word "perichoresis" and they refuse to drop that terminology to communicate the spiritual reality that they see, they are not following Torrance's point.

Thanks for the clarification David - I guess I've seen too much.  The "thinking in images" that Torrance refers to reminds me of the "visualization" and "faith imagination" in some church circles which is more along the lines of goofy New Age spirituality.
Jesus has painted us a few word pictures with his parables which mean one thing to some ppl and another to those with
understanding.... and the key is "understanding" which comes from the Spirit of God rather than the words alone.  judyt
