There are two answers to this. One is
just to say that "eternal" can be used in two ways, or has two meanings, one of
which is "endless". In fact, alternatives such as "everlasting" or
"without end" are often used to describe the life we have.
Another answer is to say that the "eternal
life" we have really is without beginning, because it is not our
own but Christ's. It is given to us from a source outside ourselves, so it
has a beginning in us in the sense that until it is given to us, we
don't have it. You could think of passing a flame from one candle to
another. The flame begins to burn on the second candle,
but it existed before that on the first candle.
