You brought my name into this, so let me say for the record that while I 
recognize that there are bad traditions and vain traditions, there also are 
good traditions.  I do not disagree with your statement here.

Furthermore, let me say that a related term is the word "structure." 
Children and the spiritually immature benefit more from tradition and 
structure than those who are mature.  Sometimes those who are spiritually 
adolescent over-react to their past traditions and structures, sometimes not 
giving enough heed to the proverbial "don't throw the baby out with the bath 
water."
