Just a couple of comments here, Judy. I don't want to wear myself out.

You started in with the Greek, so why not the Hebrew?

The word translated "grief" in Isa. 53:3 is translated as sickness or
disease some 20 times, but only 4 times as grief or griefs. For example,
consider the following passage:

Deuteronomy 7:15
(15) And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none
of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay
them upon all them that hate thee.

The same Hebrew word translated "sickness" in this passage ("the Lord will
take away from thee all sickness"), is the same Hebrew word translated as
"grief" in Isaiah 53:3. See also Deut. 28:61, 1 Kings 17:17, 2
Chr.21:14-15, and Isaiah 38:9.

It makes sense when we understand that Jesus tasted of the curse for us,
actually becoming cursed that we might be redeemed. He became poor that we
might be rich, he became cursed that we might be blessed, he became sick
that we might be healed. The Incarnation, a word I know you have come to
hate, has great meaning and understanding if we would consider it.

<Sigh> Did you even take time to read Mat. 1:1? It says:

Matthew 1:1
(1) The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of
Abraham.

Why does Matthew take time to give us a genealogy? Clearly, God knew that
the Gnostics would arise and many other sects claiming that Jesus was not
really human at all. There would be some who would spiritualize everything,
even claiming that he was not the physical seed of Abraham and David, but
the spiritual seed.

Matthew starts off saying, "son of David, son of Abraham" because he is
establishing that Jesus was the physical seed of these men. Furthermore, he
wants to point us to some numerology involved, showing how there were 14
generations from Abraham to David, and 14 generations from David to Babylon,
and 14 generations from Babylon to Christ.

Peace be with you.
