DAVEH: Thank you for clarifying that, Perry. I now understand you
did it for intentionally instructive (though misleading) purposes,
rather than intentionally distorting it for surreptitious purposes.
My understanding of your sort of comment was that you were
paraphrasing it from memory. So....it was a misunderstanding on my
part, my ego perhaps being a bit more sensitive to your anti-Mormon
remarks due to your previous comments.
Just because the quote seemed so contrary to what we really believe
is hardly satisfying from my perspective. Mormons really believe
in Jesus, yet anti-Mormons would want others to believe we don't, and
continually make such claims.....which is exactly what you are doing.
So....guess I'm a bit sensitive to that tactic as well.
If you want to continue using the "The Testament of Another Jesus
Christ" misquote, that's your prerogative......I just hope you
acknowledge why you are doing it..........to denigrate my beliefs.
Though I really don't think you are stupid, some of the things you
occasionally say cause me to ponder that assessment.

Dave,
It was an intentional misquoting meant to indicate what I believe is
a more accurate arrangement of the words. The words "Sort of" were
intended to que you and others to the fact that the book does not say
exactly what I quoted, and that I had played with the wording. I really
expect that most everyone on the forum has looked at the Bom and seen
that either on the cover or in the front papers, or has at least seen
the TV commercial in which that line is part of the patter.
Had my intention been to deceive I would not have put the "sort of"
in there. Plus, the statement is so contrary to what mormons claim,
that no one would really believe that is what it says, especially
knowing my attitude towards occultism and heresy. Perhaps contrary to
your belief about me, I am not so stupid as to think I could blatantly
misquote a statement that is right there on the front of the book of
mormon and no one would notice. I am sure Lance and John read that
every day as they begin their scripture study. (That is a joke
guys...don't choke on it.)
I do not purport to be versed in LDS theology...but I know enough to
see it for what it is..."The Testament of Another Jesus Christ".
Perry
DAVEH: Agreed, Perry. But when one
specifically puts something in quotation marks, the sort of tends to be
overlooked. Furthermore, the question remains....for a guy who is as
versed in LDS theology as you purport to be, was it an honest
mistake....or was it /sort of /intentionally meant to deceive?

Dave: That's the problem with using simple
examples when trying to convey a thought.....sometimes the little words
like "sort of" tend to be overlooked by those trying to find fault
with the storyteller.

*"The Testament of Another Jesus Christ"*
DAVEH: Welcome to the discussion, Perry. In an apparent attempt to
persuade others of your knowledge of Mormonism, you have misquoted an
important tenet of my religion. This is the correct quote.......
ANOTHER TESTAMENT OF JESUS CHRIST
http://scriptures.lds.org/bm/contents
...........you should have mentioned. Now that leaves one to
wonder.....did you as an anti-Mormon make that mistake for the purpose
of misleading people as to what I believe? Or....was it an honest
mistake?

Remember, the book of mormon is *"The Testament of Another Jesus
Christ"*. It even says so on the cover...sort of.
