Terry,  the Church as a whole is ignorant of the difference between the Ceremonial, the Civil (governmental), and the Moral Laws of God.  The first two were for the Jews, including that which you refer to below.  The Civil Laws were much more merciful than what the pagans around them did, such as killing a whole family or tribe for an offense. iz   Freedom to show mercy , to pray for a sexual pervert or rebellious child or adulterous spouse instead of throwing rocks at them.
