Subject: interesting book

Hey there. Hope the week before Christmas is a busy one. Just thought I'd let you know about an interesting book I got out of the library. Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice. Yes, she of Interview with the Vampire and multiple Vampire books has written a book about the life of Christ as a child, age 7 or 8. It's actually quite good and she cites NT Wright as one of her most important sources. And lots of other scholars I have never heard of but you may have. There is a lengthy afterward in the book, detailing her conservative Catholic upbringing, her marriage to an athiest, his death from a brain tumor, and her return to faith. When I commented to the librarian that a life of Christ was an interesting choice for a woman who seemed to be obsessed with vampires, she pointed out that it was just another way of exploring spirituality. I suppose! Actually I never read the vampire ones, and I didn't see the movie. Was that Tom Cruise?? I enjoyed the historical context she creates. And of course, like any really good novelist, she lets the story do the talking, rather than feeling the need to have each character preach at the reader!!! I saw it was listed by beliefnet.com as 'the best spiritual book of the year'. I'm not sure how discerning they are, but I guess it's something. Dave's reading it now, and really liking it as well. Hardcover, Knopf, just in case you were interested.

Have a good Christmas.

Barb
