this I can not see. For me the current and your patched menu are
visually the same.

+1 for one and only one toolbar. Now we have one toolbar with three kinds of 
buttons:
simple button(save, reload,...), choose button with icon (print, action,
relation) and a choose button without icon (menu): 

My opinions:

* To reduce complexity, for me the menu button should have an icon, 
  too.
* If possible the triangle for choosing at a choose button should be 
  closer to the button it is associated to. For now the triangle is 
  in the middle between two buttons. Maybe combine both to a single  
  button with choosing functionality could be the best.
* Close button can be removed, since it duplicates the close button on 
  the tab.

In general I am missing a vision/roadmap/goal for the evolution of the
client. Server side everything is a kind of clear, all power to active
record pattern and a rapid prototyping framework.
