1.9 is trunk, therefore you need trunk client (1.9) to access the server 1.9.

As you can see on http://www.tryton.org/downloads.html, Tryton versions
are organized in branches. If you want to download a specific version of server
incl. modules just put the branch in the clone URL like
hg nclone http://hg.tryton.org/1.8/trytond/
