I'm not a mail expert (rather a mta newbie), but you can just have postfix running in the standard default configuration, since it's just listening on localhost.


I now realized the solution to my problem. Looking at the source code for mailx revealed that mailx invokes sendmail. Sendmail is part of the postfix package. Thus, that solves the problem.
