another workaround to override AppleVolumes.default is to write the  
shares into AppleVolumes.system

and the brackets are indeed confusing the shell, since it tries to  
solve it, since it is a shell script.

you'll find out that if you specify the client by dns name or ip  
adress to connect to the server, you can do that quite fast after  
service start, just the announcement in appletalk will take some time.
